2010 Monona Grove Invite

The 51st Monona Grove invite allowed a bunch of great performances. We scored in 8 events and got some nice momentum going into the Big 8 Conference Championships. John Hayes (600m), Aaron Heiliger (800m), Luke Galle (Discus), Jordan Carlson (1600m), Josh Horman (400m), Isaac Carlson (200m), and Lechein Neblett (110 Hurdles, 300m Hurdles). Lechein also was awarded track athlete of the meet joining a very prestigious list of previous winners.

2010 City Outdoor

Congratulations Madison Memorial Spartans on your City Championship

It has been 12 years since the City Champion Trophy has been in the halls of Madison Memorial. Great effort to pick up points and scratch our way to the championship against some very deep and impressive teams. There were many highlights, but a few standout.....A city meet record and a school record tying 110m hurdle victory for Senior Captain Lechein Neblett. Other city champions were Ed Kluender in the Shot, Jon Jung in the disc, and Lechein Neblett in the long jump.
Gritty performances by many athletes who were not at 100% due to illness and injury helped to push us over the top. The triple jump crew scored well with Colin Cannef and Alvin Olson placing 2nd and 4th. Alvin Olson also contributed points with a 2nd place HJ finish. The throws crew and pole vaulters came thru again to help out their teammates. The list could go on and on, for every point that was scored there is a story behind it....for every point that was just out of reach today; set the countdown for 7 days for the next opportunity....that is what makes a team.

2010 43rd Spartan Invite

The 2010 Spartan Invite is canceled. With finals scheduled for 7pm and temperatures in the 30s in the core of the meet with windchills and rain further dampering the issue we did not want to risk injury of any athlete from any team. The difficulty in warming up properly and competing at a high level was a major concern anticipating these conditions. Deep regret and best of luck to all competitors, coaches, and families.

2010 Wisconsin Indoor TFA Championships

It's hard to believe how fast the season moves. We took a few Spartans down to Whitewater for the 2010 WITFA meet. There is always great competition at the meet with everyone getting ready for the outdoor season. Ron Covington gained some more premiere sprint experience making it through to the semis, but falling a few hundredths of a second short of making the finals and scoring some points. In the other fast race Lechein Neblett worked through the first couple of rounds and came just short of defending his 2009 55m hurdle title at the WITFA meet. He got beat by a great hurdler, Dexter Schleis of Germantown. It is likely that the 2 will meet again later in the season.
Brandon Lorrig and Andy Greene both lined for the 800m. It was Andy Greene's season opener in the 800m. He looked pretty relaxed and in his element as he set a new PR in the 800m by .35 seconds. Finishing up the lineup was Aaron Heiliger and Josh Peters in the 1600m. Heiliger ran an indoor best and Peters PR'd by a few tenths in his 3rd race of his young career.

Team Results can be found on this link.

2010 City Indoor Champions

It was an exciting day to be a Spartan. Our team put together a complete performance and scored points in all events except for the 4x200 (disqualified/DNF) and the 1600m run. That is a very impressive feat. We had many outstanding performances and some stand out gutsy races. I was impressed not only from our senior leadership, but also our freshmen contributors (KeYaunne Buchannan, Sam Sutherland, Rasheed Williams, Jonah Wiesse) who took to the meet and performed well in spite of their youth.

Both our shot put crew and pole vault crew (Michael Salerno, Steven Long, & Neng Thao) managed to put together 3 scorers in their events. Ed Kluender lead the shot putters with an indoor city championship and a great effort and huge PRs by Carlton Hemphill and Rob Sanchez who were both well beyond 40 feet.

The 800m was one of my favorite races of the day. Aaron Heilger and Erik Gartland just stepped up and were ready to compete. It was great to see Ron Covington motoring around the track. His 2nd place finish in the 55m dash puts his time (6.63) in the top 10 run this year so far.

Lechein Neblett had another routine day! He set a new PR in the 55 hurdles one week after a setting a PR in the 55 hurdles. Blake Tucker-Jones showed some nice aggressiveness on the hurdles coming to a 3rd place city finish as a sophomore.

It was a complete day and indeed every athlete every point mattered. A great team win.

2010 Nelson Daniel Invite

It was nice a first meet for everyone. A bunch of guys got their competition feet wet and felt pretty good about the temperature of the water. Benji Hansen (2-mile), Lechein Neblett (55m hurdles), each ran personal records in their races. You can get a peak at all the results here:
Nelson Daniel Madison Memorial Results.

If you would like to see some of the action there are 40 very short video clips available in high definition of a lot of the athletes competing at our you tube channel: http://www.youtube.com/jmmtracknfield
It was a good start to the season on the track and was great to get in to some competitions. It will be exciting in the next month to add our long jumpers, triple jumpers, high jumpers, and throwers in the mix.

Thanks to Mary Kay Battaglia for capturing these great pictures.
Practice this week will be after school @ 3:50. We will meet at the outdoor track.

Some individual event groups will be meeting later to use indoor facilities later in the week.
