City Indoor Championships - Boys = 1st Place, Girls = 1st Place

Congrats to JMM Boys & Girls Track & Field on BOTH winning the 2014 Indoor City Championships. Saturday's meet is a stepping stone for the remainder of the season. As the second meet of the season there is still much growth our teams need to make but being able win this meet in such convincing fashion AND take a step in the right direction for the season was a good day for both boys and girls programs. The boys won their first Indoor City Championships since 2007 and the girls since 2010. The girls won by compiling 123 points outdistancing second place by 66 points and the boys gathered 116 points winning by 53 points. Our team show great strength up front, depth in multiple events, and vast ability across all areas. These city championships were truly a team effort and something our programs can build off to have a terrific season the rest of 2014.

The girls team scored in all 14 events competed at the Indoor City Championships. They were led by 2014 Indoor CITY CHAMPS - Natalie S in 55m hurdles (9.58), 4x100m relay (54.48), Sydney S in high jump (4' 10"), and Kayla G in the pole vault with a new Spartan 7 vault of 9' 3". Top 5 finishes at the city meet scored points for the team competition. Others scoring points for the girls were: Emma Cate M 2nd in the 55m dash (7.91) & 4th in the long jump (14' 8"), Julana DW 3rd in the 55m dash (7.94), Margot W 4th in the 55m dash (8.04) & 2nd in the 200m dash (28.90), Sarah H 5th in the 200m dash (29.92) & 2nd in the pole vault (7' 0"), Sydney S 2nd in the 400m dash (1:03.63), Meghan S 3rd in the 800m run (2:32.28) & 2nd in the 1600m run (5:38.17), Amelia F 5th in the 800m run (2:37.43) & 4th in the 1600m run (5:43.55), Siena C 2nd in the 3200m run (12:03.57), Mariah OF 3rd in the 55m hurdles (9.82) & 3rd in the long jump (14' 10.5"), Phibi M 4th in the 55m hurdles (10.01), Kayla G 2nd in the high jump (4' 8"), Natalie S 3rd in the high jump (4' 6"), Flo L 3rd in the pole vault (6' 0"), Christina M 2nd in the shot put (31' 7.5"), Holly H 4th in the shot put (30' 4"), the 4x200m relay in 4th place (2:02.69), and the 4x400m relay in 2nd place (4:26.51).

The boys team scored in 12 of the 14 events at the Indoor City Championships. They were led by 2014 Indoor CITY CHAMPS - Jason W in the 55m dash (6.84), Daurice F in the 55m hurdles (7.76) & long jump (20' 10"), the 4x100m relay (46.38), the 4x200m relay (1:38.86), Hunter P in high jump (5' 8"), and Ryan B in shot put (44' 6.5") Also scoring on the day for the boys with their top 5 finishes were: Jake A 2nd in the 55m dash (6.92), Lonnie T 3rd in the 55m dash (6.94), Alex B 2nd in the 200m dash (24.66), Anthony H 4th in the 200m dash (24.96), Daurice F 2nd in the 400m dash (54.37), Jake R 5th in the 1600m run (4:50.94), Micah P 3rd in the 55m hurdles (8.46) & 2nd in the long jump (20' 7"), Ginovanni S and Zach O tied for 2nd in the pole vault (9' 0"), Hunter P was 4th in the pole vault (7' 6"), Price R was 2nd in the shot put (40' 3.5"), Sean B was 5th in the shot put (38' 8.25"), and the 4x400m relay was 3rd (3:49.12).

UD High School Classic (BOYS) @ Univ of Dubuque

The boys JMM Track & Field team kicked off their season by competing against a 15 team field at the University of Dubuque on Saturday morning. The team finished in 3rd place in the varsity competition with 56 points and also a 3rd place in the jv competition with 41 points. The boys were led by returning two-event state champion Daurice F who posted 1st place finishes in the 55m hurdles (7.56) and long jump (22' 1.5"). He was joined by senior Micah P in scoring in both events taking 7th in the hurdles with a 8.89 and earning a 2nd place in the long jump with a leap of 20' 6". The best showing by a newcomer goes to freshman Hunter P who cleared 5' 10" in the high jump earning him 8 team points and a 2nd place finish. Zach O earned a 4th place finish in the pole vault matching his PR of 9' 0" and Ryan B also placed 4th in the shot put with a PR of 44' 2.75". Sophomores Jake A (6.88) and Jason W (6.91) both made the 55m dash final and finished 7th and 8th respectively in a competitive final. Bryce H ran to a 6th place finish in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:26.69. Eligh A leaped 19' 0" for a PR and a 6th place finish in the long jump. Additionally, the varsity 4x200 relay placed 7th in 1:38.32 and the 4x800 relay was also 7th 9:08.85. In the jv competition the senior trio of Raquan C (7.12), Quincy M (7.18), and Trevis M (7.20) went 4th, 6th, & 7th respectively in the 55m dash. Freshman Jonas B placed 7th in the 1600m run with a time of 5:13.45. Sophomore John A had an over five foot PR in the shot put to take 2nd place with a heave of 35' 5". Senior Anthony H (18' 4") and sophomore Alex B (17' 4") went 3rd & 6th in the long jump. Rounding out the scoring for the jv competitors was the 4x800 relay placing 2nd (9:43.06), the 4x200 relay placing 6th (1:44.73), and the 2/2/4/8 medley relay placing 8th (4:27.59). This meet provided a great opportunity to knock of some rust from a long winter layover. Today provided a great starting point to build off for a successful season. We look to head back to practice on Monday and join our teammates in making improvements in every aspect of our competition. Take advantage of every day to improve from here until the end of the season.

UD High School Classic (GIRLS) @ Univ of Dubuque

The start of Spring was marked today by the JMM Girls Track & Field team kicking off the 2014 season by traveling to Dubuque, IA to compete in a 16 team invitational against WI and IA teams. The team was represented in both varsity and jv competitions finishing 7th in varsity with 34 points and 8th in jv with 15 points. The performance of the day goes to the girls in the 1500m run who finished 2nd, 3rd, & 6th overall scoring 17 points in one event. They were led by freshmen Delaney E (5:17.46), followed closely by senior Meghan S (5:17.56), and joined by fellow senior Amelia F (5:24.90). Delaney, Meghan, & Amelia also joined senior Siena C to run a Spartan Seven time of 10:18.43 in the 4x800 finishing 6th. Siena C came back later in the meet to finish 4th in the 3000m run with an 11:32.90. Additionally, scoring in the 3000 was freshman Lilly S (6th) running 11:58.68. The 4x200 team of Skyylah G, Emma Cate M, Mariah OF, & Sydney S combined to run a 1:54.55 to place 7th. In the field events senior Kayla G led the way in the pole vault matching a PR jump of 8' 3" to place 2nd and she was joined by teammate sophomore Sarah H in PRing with a jump of 6' 9" for 4th. Sydney S. placed 5th in the high jump with a jump of 4' 10" and 8th in the long jump with a leap of 14' 6.5". In the jv competition Margot W had a nice race of 8.19 for 4th in the 55m dash. Phibi M leaped 14' 2 for 3rd in the long jump and Emma Cate M went 14' 0.5" for 5th. Today's meet was a great starting point for the season. There are many hard workouts, hours at the track, and technique changes that will be completed in the coming weeks to ensure the team continues to improve. Strive to get better every day and this season will be a fun season for everyone on the team.
