Message from your Team Leaders

3 quick reminders:
1. Be active.....get in the weightroom.....get running
2. Team meeting on Thursday January 28th in the Wisconsin Neighborhood Center after school
3. The work you put in will be the results that come out.

Track & Field Teammates,
Our season starts in less than 3 months. Everyone that is not in a winter sport needs to be in the weight room or going to the running club after school. We want every Track & Field athlete ready to go when practice starts on Monday March 8th. We will have a pre-season team meeting the week after semester exams on Thursday, January 28th after school in the Wisconsin Neighborhood center. Start working out over winter break and make sure you get in the weight room and/or the running club after school. If you have any questions talk to us at school or call us. Are wondering if Track & Field is right for you, check this link out: 'Why Track & Field'.
Your Leadership Crew,
Captain: Lechein Neblett
Senior Leader: Freddy Jackson
Senior Leader: Aaron Heiliger
Junior Leader: Jonathon Jung
Junior Leader: Mike Salerno

Weight Room: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday after school
Running Club: Everyday after school Wolf Neighborhood / Art Hallway

The End brings the New Beginning

The Madison Memorial Track & Field season has come to a close fresh off some great performances at the state meet where our team placed 9th. This years state meet performance was put together by the efforts of Co-MVPs Quentin Badger and Lechein Neblett. Quentin Badger was able to put together a new school record in the 200m dash at 22.06 and placed 6th in both the 100m dash and 200m dash. Lechein Neblett, who as a junior, placed 2nd in the 3oom Hurdles and 3rd in the 110m Hurdles in impressive fashion. Lechein blazed through the 110m hurdles in 14.46s and the 300m hurdles in 38.60 seconds. This put him in 2nd place all-time in both events in Madison Memorial Track & Field History.

We have the choice now to become a great team. How you train in the off-season and the decisions you make will play a role in the results for the 2010 season.

State Meet @ UW-LaCrosse

And then there was one left, a big one at that. State meet this Friday and Saturday. If you can make it come on up to LaCrosse. It is one of the best high school events that exists. If you can not make it you can watch it live at http://wiaa.tv/

Our team banquet will be next Thursday, June 11th at Rocco Rococo’s banquet facility on Mineral Point Road. If you have not turned in your banquet info please pick up a form in the athletic office or Track locker room and return it to any coach ASAP.

6:00 pm: Introduction & Welcome

6:35 pm: Formal Program (Awards, Season Stats, Special Recognition, etc.)

The dinner is a pizza buffet that includes pizza, breadsticks, salad, and soda for $8/person. Please turn in the banquet form to any coach before Tuesday 6/9 so that we can get an accurate count for food and to arrange for award distribution for those athletes that can not attend.

UNIFORMS if you have not turned in your uniform you will be put on the obligation list.

JV City Meet Reschedule

The JV and frosh City Meet has been rescheduled for Monday 5/18 at Mansfield. The Big 8 Conference meet is on Tuesday @ Middleton. The frosh/soph Big 8 meet is on Wednesday in Janseville.

A Nice Week of Work & Results

Thanks everyone for their help in putting on a fantastic Spartan Invite. We had a busy week starting with Baraboo Relays, a dual vs Middleton, Frosh/Soph at Waunakee, and the Spartan Invite.

It will be another busy week with the Varsity City meet at LaFollette on Tuesday, the JV City meet at home on Wednesday, and the Monona Grove Invite on Friday.

Some intense performances paved the way this last week. A sophomore 3200 M Relay record by Jordan Carlson, Issac Carlson, Erik Gartland, and Austin Bataglia was set at the Spartan Invite. Our team fell just 2 points shy of a win at the Baraboo relays led by strong performances in the sprints. The Spartan Invite brought an impressive point total in a deep field. Quentin Badger was awarded the distinguished honor of track athlete of the meet. Quentin was able to set a new school record in the 200m, win the 100m, and was part of the 3rd fastest 800m relay in school history. The relay squad that joined Quentin on the 4x200m was Lechein Neblett, Taylor Smith, and Antonio Hyche. Lechein also brought home some impressive race results in the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles winning both races against some high quality competitors. A bunch of guys are on the edge of having some major improvements on the track and in the field. It will be a pleasure helping them to get it done.

JMM vs Beloit

Thanks go out to our professional photographers Battaglia & Kakazu for capturing the action at the Beloit meet.

Indoor State Champion

Madison Memorial Sprinter Lechein Neblett won the 55 meter hurdles at the Wisconsin TFA Indoor State championships. Lechein was able to edge out Elliot Sperings of Appleton East (7.85s) and Detione White from Waukesha South (7.90s) to get the victory. This is yet another personal best for Lechein this season with a winning time of 7.83s. The indoor season turned in some very exceptional results for Neblett who also won the City Indoor Hurdles title and placed 2nd in the long jump. Neblett, a Junior captain, is awaiting the outdoor season which starts Tuesday in a dual meet vs the the talented LaFollette Lancers. Personal bests in the mile and 800m were also set at the TFA meet in Whitewater this Saturday. Nathan Kakazu came across in 4:56 and Prashanth Prabakaran in 4:57 in the 1600m, and Bradon Lorrig 2:15 and Andy Greene in 2:08 in the 800m, while shot-putter Chase Traefeld tossed out a 45 foot 2 inch throw to get his season underway. What we need

We have been able to work really hard to put together a quality experience for all athletes in our program. The items below represent needs of the program that directly effect the student-athletes. Not every athlete has the ability to purchase the entire array of options needed to be at their best for practice and meets. New or gently used items are really appreciated.
  • Training Shoes
  • Competition Spikes
  • Replacement spikes
  • Spike wrenches
  • PoleVault cover
  • Athletic clothing (especially for cold weather)
  • Athletic bags
  • Stretching bands
  • Plyometrics gear
The following items are larger scale:
  • Track & Field Outdoor Record Board
  • Track and Field Indoor Wall Display Cabinets
  • Locker room team competition boards
  • Locker room organization boards (all in the name of organizing the 100+ athletes for Tuesday reports and hourly attendance checks, etc.)
  • Pole vault boxes
  • Track Resurfacing
  • Enhanced seating in the throws, pole vault, and high jump area
  • Pole Vault Poles
  • Pit underlayment kits
  • Event specific training apparati
In addition to all these items that we are working hard to get we have large recurring costs which make the season memorable for the athletes. This includes items like the awards for the Spartan Invite, in-season team awards, team snacks, and end-of-season awards.

Let me know if you can help in anyway.
Thanks,
Coach Tangen

Berkeley Running Company (University Ave.) and Moving Shoes (Park St.) are both recommended for having knowledgeable staff to properly fit a running shoe.

It is highly likely that we will have some outdoor track meets in non-ideal conditions as well as have outdoor practices in cool weather that requires outdoor athletic clothing. It is not requires that athletes have out Track and Field team warmup suit, but it is offered once again in our 2010 Track and Field Apparel order sheet.

* Absences
o If you have a planned absence please let the coaching staff know well ahead of time. Even excused absences could result in the changing of meet entries for the athletes, as their training will be compromised when they miss a practice.

* JMMTrackandField.com and email list

Boys Track & Field Season Starts March 9th
Fellas,
It was great to see such a great crew of student-athletes at our meeting. We have a bunch of guys to add to our Track & Field crew who are busy playing Basketball, Swimming, Wrestling, and playing Hockey. Please let other track and field athletes that you know to check in with a coach if they missed the meeting. Contact one of the coaches if you have any questions.

Make sure you are getting some pre-season work done. You do not want to start the season on March 9th without any baseline training. Just make sure you are doing some active things for at least 30 minutes a day. Check in with the Madison Mileage after school running club and head down to the weight room for the FASST program (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri after school).

See you on March 9th if not sooner,
