WIAA State Championships - Day 2

The battle for state championships continued on Saturday as all events were finals. Competition was fierce, times were fast, and once again Madison Memorial was a big factor in the outcome of the events. The field events held today were again trials and finals. Where as all the running events were finals on day two. The top ten competitors took to the track to determine the 2013 state champions.

Daurice F began the day for the Spartans in the 110m hurdles. He ran a 14.55 for a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP...his second of the meet and his first in the 110m hurldes. Daurice closed out his 2013 state meet with a 9th place finish in the 300m hurdles running a 40.73. Daurice ended his junior track & field campaign with two state championships and a school record.

Jester W kept the momentum going for Madison Memorial as he overcame a slow start in the 100m dash to win his first STATE TITLE running a 10.70. He continued his great day by adding his second STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in the 200m dash in a new school record time of 21.73. Jester had a great senior season finishing with two school records and two state championships.

Corinne F competed in the shot put on Saturday. Her throw of 36' 1" was good for 15th place and closed out her storied career at Madison Memorial. Corinne earned back to back state championships in the discus and also ended her career as the Madison Memorial's best girl's discus thrower.

The 2013 WIAA State Championships saw many great performances by Spartan athletes. Our team finished with FIVE STATE CHAMPIONS!!!! The boys scored 40 points to finish in 3rd place in the team chase (1st place was 51points and 2nd was 50points). The girls scored 10 points to finish in a tie for 27th place (1st place was 48points). This was an amazing state meet as we competed with only 4 athletes in 9 events. As our team grows and improves we would like to see more athletes competing at this meet and more events. As coaches we have seen the talent at our practices and are looking for those athletes with the drive and work ethic to take that talent to the next level. The Wisconsin high school athlete is getting faster, stronger, and more athletic. Will the Madison Memorial athlete continue to grow to this level of competition? Corinne, Marissa, Jester, & Daurice have laid a great foundation for this program to grow off of. Who is willing to take the next step to get to that level?
